The team of Physio New Body undertakes the treatment of Musculoskeletal and Neurological diseases and aims at the management of acute and chronic pain, so that the patient becomes functional again, re-integrates smoothly into daily life, and ultimately ensures a better quality of life.
Our physiotherapists, having an anthropocentric approach, evaluate each case of the patient as unique, taking into account all those components that may affect the clinical picture (medical history and bio-psychosocial factors). In this context, they intervene by targeting the treatment of each problem and by implementing personalized rehabilitation programs. In the successful outcome of the therapeutic intervention by our physiotherapists, in addition to the approach of clinical reasoning, a crucial factor is the modern equipment that we have in our premises and use on a case-by-case basis.
The treatment and relief of pain are achieved through various methods and techniques, such as manual therapy, acupuncture, massage, but also with the use of appropriate machines, such as tecar therapy. Finally, a therapeutic exercise program is added to the treatment plan, which is necessary to be applied by the patient in order to maintain his good physical condition.
The Physio New Body carries out complete treatment programs for the treatment of sports injuries on an amateur and professional level, with the aim of the complete recovery of the athlete.
Through a detailed evaluation, an individualized treatment plan is followed in order to properly reintegrate the athlete into his sports activity. A key part of the treatment is the design/training of a therapeutic exercise program that is given and should be followed by the athlete in order to prevent and reduce the risk of re-injury.
The lymphatic system is a key part of our body’s vitality. It is the network that transports nutrients to our body and removes harmful elements from it. If for any reason the balance of its function is disturbed and it cannot be restored, there is a high probability of lymphedema.
More specifically, lymphedema is a pathological condition in which the lymphatic system does not function adequately having, as a result, the normal, fluid protein load not being removed at the rate and to the extent that would be expected. Such a condition is caused by some abnormalities in the shape, quantity, and function of the lymph nodes or lymphatics.
There are two categories here:
It is characteristic that lymphedema can appear even after 3-4 years from the injury of the lymphatic system.
Lymphedema can occur anywhere on the body, with a greater frequency in the upper and lower limbs. In the early stages, the swelling is soft and can move easily. However, as the length of stay in the affected area increases, lesions develop due to proliferation of connective tissue (edema hardening, hyperkeratosis), the skin becomes thick and rough and in the final stages, the condition can reach elephantiasis (excessive increase in volume).
The part of the body that has developed lymphedema has a reduced immune response, which makes it vulnerable to serious infections, even from a simple cut on the already sensitive skin. Finally, it is important to mention the effects that such a chronic condition has on both the psychology and the daily and social life of the patient.
At our centre, lymphedema is treated through Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT).
The treatment plan is created based on the patient’s history, the physical evaluation of the lymphedema, and the stage it has progressed. This plan includes Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), the compression Layered bandaging with special materials and specialized techniques, the skincare, and special exercises for the functionality and the strengthening of the affected area.
When the decongestion treatments are completed, the patient will need to wear specially fitted garments that support the area to control swelling, specially made after a detailed measurement. This will prevent a possible recurrence of lymphedema and allow the person to fully return to the rhythms of life.
Complete Decongestive Therapy and Manual Lymphatic Drainage are effectively applied to other types of edema, such as liposuction, post-traumatic edema, postoperative edema, and chronic venous insufficiency.
